ஜனவரி 16, ஸ்ரீலங்கா (Sri Lanka): தமிழக மீனவர்கள் இலங்கை கடற்படையால் சிறைபிடிக்கும் நிகழ்வுகள் பல ஆண்டுகளாய் தொடர்ந்து வருகின்றன. சில நேரம் தமிழக மீனவர்களின் படகுகளை சேதப்படுத்தி, வலைகளை கிழித்து அத்துமீறல் போன்ற சம்பவங்களில் ஈடுபடுவதும் நடக்கும். இந்நிலையில், ராமநாதபுரம் பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த மீனவர்கள் கடலுக்குள் மீன் பிடிக்க சென்ற நிலையில், அவர்கள் எல்லை தாண்டி வந்து மீன் பிடித்ததாக இலங்கை கடற்படையால் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளனர். 18 மீனவர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு, இலங்கையில் உள்ள சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். மன்னார் பகுதியில் இவர்கள் மீன்பிடித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது கைது செய்யப்பட்டதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
